ToriBOX was recently featured in BusinessDay, one of Nigeria's leading business publications, in a piece covering our launch as a vertical drama streaming platform built for African filmmakers and audiences.
The feature describes ToriBOX as Africa's first vertical drama streaming platform of its kind — one built specifically to give Nigerian and African filmmakers a direct, sustainable way to distribute their work and earn from it, instead of relying on cinemas, unfair licensing deals, or unreliable ad revenue from short-form platforms.
Why We Built a Vertical Drama Platform for Nigeria
Our founder, David Effiong, spoke to BusinessDay about the distribution gap that pushed us to build ToriBOX in the first place:
"For too long, talented African filmmakers have made great work with no real way to earn from it. Many have no access to cinemas, some receive unfair deals from international streaming platforms, while advertising revenue from short-form platforms has not been sustainable."
On what ToriBOX changes for creators, he added:
"We're giving creators and film-makers a direct line to their audience and a real share of the revenue, while giving African viewers stories that are actually theirs."
And on why ownership matters for Nigerian storytelling specifically:
"This is about Nigerians owning our own distribution, not waiting for someone else to decide whether our stories are worth telling."
What's Covered in the Feature
The BusinessDay article walks through the ToriBOX story so far:
- The web application went live on May 2, 2026, serving audiences across Africa and the diaspora.
- The Silent Oath, our first original production, has already attracted paying viewers since launch.
- A second original series is already in development.
- Native iOS and Android apps are planned for August 2026, to make the platform easier to reach wherever viewers are.
On the long-term vision, Effiong told BusinessDay: "We're building infrastructure for African storytelling. Distribution has always been one of the biggest challenges in our industry, and we believe creators deserve a platform where success depends on the quality of their stories and the audiences they build."
